Office with green roof adds solar panels estimated to provide 80 percent of annual kWh energy offset

Sixty-five square miles of Twin Cities-area water resources are monitored and protected by the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District (RWMWD). The agency ensures that water making its way to the Mississippi River from wetlands, streams, and lakes in its jurisdiction arrives as clean as possible—and now the RWMWD is trying to help keep the skies pollution-free as well. Its district office building along Gervais Creek in Little Canada is going solar with a system from local, St. Paul-based All Energy Solar that will offset an estimated 80 percent of the building’s annual unit energy costs.

I'm Sue Owen, the Communications Intern here at All Energy Solar. Because I'll return to school this fall and won't be able to continue here, I wanted to write a letter to Congress that I hope will express how over the course of this summer internship, I have been wholly persuaded that solar power is the best way for the country to consume energy. In the letter, I ask Congress to enact a hefty tax on carbon.  Join me in writing Congress in favor of climate action, and as a collective force we can make the changes necessary to preserve our environment. For Minnesotans considering solar energy, the new Solar*Rewards program at Xcel Energy offers an excellent incentive to go solar in 2014.  Solar customers who sign up this year will receive a check every year for $0.08/KWH of energy they produce for 10 years! This year the rebate is the highest possible, meaning that early adopters will lock in the best benefit -- the state has already scheduled for it to drop by $0.02/KWH in 2015 and 2016.
