Xcel Rebates and Community Solar in Minnesota

January 03, 2013

Xcel has delayed the application cycle for SolarRewards for 2013! That's great news if you haven't yet looked into solar for this year. Xcel said they will begin to accept applications in February or March of this year.

Solar in Minnesota has been growing in popularity over the last several years and funding has started to go quickly. Near the end of 2012, Xcel announced that rebates would be available each year through 2013 at $5 million a year and $1.50/watt. $5 million a year may sound like plenty of money allocated to solar, but given that in 2012 $8.4 million was distributed in SolarRewards funding, we definitely expect the funding to be used up shortly after applications begin to be accepted.

The chart below shows SolarRewards funding as distributed over the last three years.

All Energy Solar is attempting to help local residents gain access to as much of the SolarRewards funding as possible. Specifically we are running Community Solar Programs in both Southwest Minneapolis and Northfield, Minnesota. The goal of these programs is to provide community residents lower cost access to solar. Community solar lowers the cost of installation by allowing All Energy Solar to purchase panels and materials in bulk as well as allowing advanced planning reducing administrative costs. These benefits, as well as other cost reduction opportunities with community solar, allow us to provide home solar installations with solar at 30% lower final cost than normal.

These community solar programs close March 1st in order to ensure applications to SolarRewards can be submitted as soon as possible when Xcel begins to accept them. To inform people about solar and these community solar programs, All Energy Solar is hosting several seminars in both Southwest Minneapolis and Northfield. To register for these seminars please visit www.AllEnergy.eventbrite.com or find more information at www.AllEnergySolar.com/Northfield.
