The Dakota Electric Association Solar Rebate is open once again to assist in the cost of solar installations. Beginning January 1, 2022, residential systems with a rating at or below 20.0 kW DC are eligible for a one-time, $500 solar commissioning rebate after the commissioning is complete.
In addition to the $500 rebate to help with the installation of solar panels, Dakota Electric Association offers a rebate for electric vehicle (EV) chargers. This rebate of up to $500 is available for an EV charger installed where electricity is supplied by Dakota Electric and controlled at an off-peak rate.
That's a good amount of money to help towards the installation of just a solar panel system, or a solar energy system with an EV charger. As more consumers are considering the move to fully electric vehicles, the need for private, home-based electric charging stations is on the rise.
There are also TWO federal tax credits to help with the purchase of solar panels and an electric vehicle.
First, the Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit is currently 26 percent! That's more than a quarter of your solar installation that could be paid for already. Act soon, though, as this is likely the last year to receive the 26 percent rebate before it decreases in 2023 to 22 percent.
Second, is the Federal Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Tax Credit. This tax credit is worth up to $7,500 for individuals who buy a new electric vehicle that meet certain standards.
