2022 Minneapolis Solar Incentive: Green Cost Share

The Minneapolis Green Cost Share program has been renewed for 2022. Like other local programs, there have been changes compared to 2021. This year there is an even greater focus on projects in the Green Zone and Great Streets, in particular Environmental Justice and making solar affordable for those who could benefit the most from it.

Since 2012, the City of Minneapolis has aimed to create a healthier, cleaner, more sustainable future in part through the Green Cost Share program, which offers matching fund for commercial, multi-family, and single-family properties undertaking the installation of solar power (among other pollution reduction projects).

For qualifying installations, this Minneapolis solar incentive will pay a credit based on the first year estimated kilowatt hour (kWh) production.

Every year, All Energy Solar applies to this program and submits the necessary documentation for new solar constructions on behalf of our customers as a group. For 2021, All Energy Solar built and submitted 77 projects under this program, with customers receiving a combined total of $127,245 additional rebate dollars for making the switch to solar. Nine of the solar installations were part of the Environmental Justice rate.

Minneapolis ranks among the top cities in the nation when it comes to setting and meeting climate change goals. Greenhouse gas emissions in Minneapolis dropped 17% in 2018 compared to 2006 levels and about a third of the city’s energy comes from renewable sources. Minneapolis’s city council formally adopted a community-wide goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030.
